God's Work Values

The work culture presents us with an array of values… company values, team values, core values, professional and personal values. Many of these are relative, in that they change over time to adapt to current work conditions. However, God gives us foundational values that are absolute; they provide direction and stability to our work life. These values are not devised by humans, rather they are given and based on God’s character. I have chosen to put these values in two categories, Kingdom and Redemptive values. (This post will be the first of two.)

First, Kingdom Values reflect God’s Supreme rule over all things (Psalm 103:19), and in particular His Kingship operating in our work life as we submit to Him. These Kingdom values are described as unshakable and unchangeable (Hebrews 12:27-28). Though our work careers may undergo many changes… under God rule we can experience His ongoing and lasting purposes in our journey.
Here are two Kingdom values to consider for your work life.

  1. The greatest motivation and deepest joy in our work is discovered in the value of doing our work wholeheartedly, first and foremost unto God. (Colossians 3:23; Ecclesiastes 2:22-25).
  2. The highest and most fulfilling pursuit in our work will be discovered in the value of seeking first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness, and what is subsequently needed will be provided (Matthew 6:33).

These values should not hinder your work performance, actually they will complement and enhance it… because God values your work!
