The Impact of God in Work
Paul Curtas has done a masterful job demonstrating the impact that Christians can have in the worldwide marketplace to our students at Columbia International University. His book, When God Shows Up At Work, is a delightful, wonderfully clear, biblically-nuanced presentation of how ‘ministering professionals’ can know Christ and make him known…
Paul has a standing invitation to lecture to our business students anytime … they value his wisdom, life experiences, and willingness to talk with them.

Our church, Hope Presbyterian Church in Fredericksburg, VA, recently hosted Paul Curtas as he led his workshop on Discipleship in the Workplace. It was a wonderful blessing to all who attended. Paul applied Biblical truths and principles to the nature of work in general and to the specific opportunites and challenges people face in the world of work today… his presentation was very effective and meaningful. He led us through a wealth of Bible passages exploring their truth and applying them to our world…
I strongly recommend utilizing Paul’s ministry. I know you and your congregation will be blessed.

Mr. Paul Curtas does an amazing job helping students see how their relationship with Jesus and work intersect. It is not only the students who are impacted – as someone who teaches business from a Biblical worldview, Mr. Curtas has challenged and deepened my understanding of what it means to be a Christian in business. He demolishes the sacred/secular divide and demonstrates how God can use believers in the workforce to be a light. He shatters the idea that there is a hierarchy to vocations, explaining that we can honor the Lord in whatever we do.

I have read hundreds of books on different subjects with different authors. I have a small library at home as I myself am a lover of books and I really love to read. Paul Curtas’ book… is a must-read for people in the workplace. It’s not offensive even to non-believers. It’s not “churchy” and not endorsing any denomination. It’s neither condemning nor judgmental. It is based purely on solid biblical principles and on Christian worldview. From my personal view point, it fits from the CEO to the lowest rank in the company.

What a great Annual Staff Meeting we had recently. This was my seventeenth meeting as a staff member of Southwest Christian Care – it was the BEST! As a Christian, we sometimes forget the best place to show others the love of Jesus is at work. Paul Curtas, [Director Emeritus of] Fellowship of Christian Airline Personnel and his presentation of God-Sized View of Our Work, Defining Workplace Ministry, Responding to Workplace Conditions, and Becoming a Part of the Solution were inspiring, encouraging, and uplifting to each staff member attending.
Thank you, Paul, for reminding us that God loves and works within us 24/7!
— Janice Wright, Director of Development – Southwest Christian Care
We recently had Paul Curtas of Fellowship of Christian Airline Personnel come and speak at our Annual Staff Meeting for Southwest Christian Care. He brought to us God’s word and how to demonstrate His truth within the work place. The content of his presentation could not have been more timely for our work of service at Southwest Christian Care. Our work is serving others and his presentation, of how to allow God to work through us, was very encouraging!
— Michael F. Sorrow, Executive Director – Southwest Christian Care
I got this book given as a gift and I love it! I am a Christian who works in the aluminum business and want my workplace not just to be a place where I earn money but instead where I can shine the light of Christ. So I was utterly delighted to receive a book which addresses the issues related to work and how to bring God’s Kingdom into this when God indeed shows up at work. This book also challenges me to use the time wisely and intentional. Paul M. Curtas has not only written well, but engages with the reader. Very worthwhile!

Dear Mr. Curtas, My name is Garrett Kuczinski and I am a student athlete at Columbia International University. I appreciate you coming to speak to us this week. I got to hear from you twice and you really changed my view on work. I had a kitchen job at a restaurant and did not have a good experience and I have not worked since. I plan to get another job after basketball season is done and focus on God in the work place like you said. You also mentioned some things about success that really helped me because I am currently writing a paper on success in my English class. Again, thank you for taking your time to spread the word and influence me personally. Look forward to hearing from you again!

Dear Mr. Curtas, I would like to thank you for coming to speak to my business class this week at CIU. I thoroughly enjoyed the insight you gave on how God views work and how we as Christians should treat work in response. I am a junior and new to the business major after struggling through several other majors here at CIU. I wanted to change my major to business earlier on, but was discouraged by many who instead pushed me towards more traditional “ministry-focused” studies. I have always loved the professional world, but felt like I needed to pursue a career that was more “sacrificial” or honoring to God. Your presentation was so encouraging to me and affirmed the belief I always had: that it is possible to share the love of Christ in the professional world and that my pursuit of a career in a success-driven world is not any less honoring to God. Thank you for your passion to teach this truth to the world and for taking time out of your busy travel schedule to come and speak to an introductory business course about your experiences. I cannot wait to finish your book and share these ideas with others!
— Emily Hernandez, CIU Business Student
Hello Mr. Curtas! After you spoke to my Intro to Business class this semester, I found myself intrigued by all that you presented to the class. I then began reading your book and I found myself facing conviction and had an eye-opening experience while reading! I can truly say that your book led me to change my view of work and see things in a new light! I just wanted to express my gratitude for you coming and speaking to my class and for your book! I wish you more success and pray that you see much fruit in the work that God has for you!
— Jordan Maroney, CIU Business Student, Employed now by Wheaten Press
Good afternoon Mr. Curtas, You came and spoke to my introductory to Business class at Columbia International University back at the beginning of fall. At the beginning of your lecture, I had an extremely hard time grasping how God could use me for his mission in the workplace. It took quite a bit of time for me to understand that God gives everyone an individual plan and it is important to realize your full potential of fulfilling God’s plan. I would like to thank you for opening my eyes to this new perspective.
— Colleen Moore, CIU Business Student
My name is Andrew McNeill, and I am a business student at CIU. I just wanted to write and thank you for coming out and speaking to our class! It was incredibly helpful to hear solid insight and teaching from a ministering professional. Thanks again for speaking to our group!

Thank you for speaking to our Introduction to Business class last week! I greatly appreciated your insight and instruction on how to live as a Christian professional in the business world.
— Cameron Ramsey, CIU Business Student
I just wanted to take a few minutes of your time to express my appreciation for the wisdom you and your wife brought to CIU last week! What a great way to start the semester. The objective you have created for looking at the workplace has profoundly impacted the way in which I will continue to view it. I NEVER would have imagined so much scripture could be found on this very topic. What a revelation to know that God created work even before the fall of man, and to persevere through stressful situations with the knowledge that in that God has stored rewards!! Many thanks for having a profound impact on my life.
— Diane Roden, CIU Business Student
My name is Abdoul Balla, I am a student at Columbia International University in Amy Dubois business class. I just want to say thank you Sir for coming and speaking in our class about ministry in the workplace. The material and knowledge you have blessed us with, will for sure be useful one day in our workplace. Thank you, Mr. Curtas! God bless you!
— Abdoul Balla, CIU Business Student
The first reason I’m reaching out to you is to thank you for coming to speak with us. Some of the things you shared with us greatly impacted the way I think about business and how my Christian life should integrate into the work I do. I was particularly encouraged when you talked about business and how it relates to ministry. Since I picked my major, I’ve been pondering whether I should pursue the “ministry” aspect of my education or the “business” side of my studies. The things you shared helped me come to peace with the knowledge that they are often the same thing. I think God really used you to help me understand at least a piece of my future calling, so thank you.
— Wilson Patterson, CIU Business Student
